I was checking out at the grocery store and my total was $40.10
The young woman ringing me up took 10 cents out of her pocket and paid it towards my groceries so I wouldn’t get 90 cents in change. I hate carrying change so this was awesome to me. Also, I’m poor right now, so that’s another plus.
The point is, she works for minimum wage at a grocery store where she probably buys her lunch. That’s one hour’s worth of pay lost right there. Taxes burn another 2 hours of her pay. Gas to get to work and back home probably costs another 30-60 minutes pay. I’m sure she doesn’t get paid breaks either. However, she paid money so that a random stranger didn’t have to carry some change around. I didn’t realize how sweet it was until I got home. If I had lots of money, I would love to use it in this situation. When someone offered a great gesture like that I’d say, “Thank you for your dime. Here’s 1,000 dollars for being awesome.”
